This was an image I drew at my grandmother's wake. She was a big fan of my work and was very proud of me so instead of drinking my thir... er, second beer... I started to draw an image based on a lovely photo taken of my cousin, Claire who's a professional ballerina. Right now this is a 4 part process:
1. The sketch and touch ups
2. Trace the piece to an 11x14 bristol board
3. Touch ups and addition of twigs and details
4. Ink the piece
The twigs of her hair took me 3 weeks to finish! I had an idea for how I wanted the hair to flow and over-lap. The idea is that the bottom half is water-based and the top part meets the sun and the twigs dry up. So, yeah. I think about what I'm drawing and the environment the subject is in.
This is also a part of my Forest Fashions series. I'm working on a couple more. I just need the approval from my sister-in-law to use her ferns. *chuckles*
Enjoy! I will color this bad boy... soon.
