Bastett's Chats Ep 14: The End of 2009!

Wed Jan 6, 2010, 9:16 PM
  • Mood: Pride
  • Listening to: "ManMan"
  • Reading: Devil's Backbone
  • Watching: Big Bang Theory
  • Eating: Spaghetti
  • Drinking: Pop
Next Show: TBA (to be announced)

With the various commissions and the comic book "Horizon" I am unable to secure any shows this year (also, money is a little tight due to the economy). Please keep checking my gallery for updates or email me: bastett08nyo@hotmail.com for more info on future dates or cheap shows to go to around the Portland/Vancouver area. Thank you!

Thank God it's 2010!!! It's the new Millenium, too! God, am I happy it's 2010. 2009 just sucked and I know this year's going to be better.

First off: I'm losing weight! I checked my weight: 208 lbs!!! Only 18 more pounds to lose and I've met my goal! My Doctor told me to get to a 190 and I'm good. I'm really proud of myself. I've been working out, my breathing is better but my back and my neck are really stiff. Gotta work on that.

Work has been hell lately! I've been working so much and the way the store looks just makes me angry. I hope we can get things in order soon so we can find things easier.

Horizon has been taking flight. I'm almost done with my Nibori character page and my last pages were posted. Please give me some advice on the pages. I'd love to hear what you think of my work.

Working on more art lately... really tired but I hope to post more soon.

Take care, guys and please check out my gallery later on this week. I hope to post more soon.

Bastett's Chats Ep 13: End of the Holiday!!!

Gah! This year has been CRAZY!

Did everyone have a nice holiday? I sure did! I got a Blu-ray and a new cell phone for X-mas! I also got some cash from my dad to help out with clothes and things I needed for the house. I bought "District 9" on Blu-ray and have been enjoying the movie for a while now. It's outstanding on my Blu-ray! Now, I just gotta find a nice Flat Screen TV for my viewing pleasure.

This weeks been... odd. I have a tough start of the week and my conflicts with love are staggering right now. I feel like I'm so paranoid by how things work in my life that I kind of mess things up for my social life. I know I'm a nice person... or I TRY to be and I try to be a good friend but lately I feel used or like I'm just manipulating people. That's in my personal life. With my family it's gotten better! My father and I got along really well on Tuesday. We got to have some time together alone at my favorite restaurant, "Rock'n Wings" and we spoke for a long time. I really enjoyed my time with my dad. My step-dad Don and I are now going to a Graphic Novel Book Club and we had a great first meeting. Everyone is super nice and are around 32-40. Really cool group of GN fans and they all seemed to like me and Don. Don's reading graphic novels now! I know! WOAH!!!

Got to see "Avatar".... holy JEBUS!:nirvana: :eyepopping: It was soooo worth the $13 a ticket. Jeeze! James Cameron might be a jerk on the set but he's one creative man. He totally blew me away by the visuals and the characters, the concept, the world, the opening sequence with the hyper sleep (where was THAT in "Aliens?"). The film was amazing! Now I wanna see the "Avatar: the Last Air Bender" movie (I know it's being called "the Last Air Bender" but still...). The only thing I gotta comment on is the story for "Avatar." There wasn't a very strong story for the movie. Cameron could have spent half the time he spent on the visuals to work on a stronger story.

Now for the really BIG news: Kerry got a nomination for an Inkwell award! Yes! I got the notice and I'm not a runner up but heck! I got a nomination! :#1: :trophy: Sorry I didn't notify you guys earlier but it's been so heck-tick lately that I haven't been sleeping or getting the right amount of sleep that I need and I'm just really tired. Plus the project I'm working on is nearing it's deadline. Gah! The award is for professional inkers (traditional inkers) who are published or not published. I'm a part of an online community called "Comic Book Art Commissions" and the community has an assortment of published or un-published artists and writers who submit work for sale or by commission. Wish me luck! I'll let you guys know when I find out if I'm a runner up or just a lucky girl who got a chance to get an award. Either way I'm still inking and happy to be doing so.

As for the comic, "Horizon", I want to thank you all VERY very much for your continuous support of the comic and my work. "Horizon" has been attracting many fans and publishers and Chris and I are really thrilled with the response. We've both put lots of love and devotion into this project and I'm so happy to see a positive response from the fans. Thank you. I'm working on the inked pages of the comic right now and I really want to know what you guys think. I'll continue to keep you updated and I hope to have some wallpapers and colored images up soon. If you have any questions about the project and who we've been talking to I will certainly let you know by either email or note on DA. Just ask away. Chris and I really want to get the word out about this comic. Tell you friends! This is an awesome story and I hope you all enjoy the work we've put into it.

Finally, if I don't post by the New Years it's because I'm going to a party and I won't be back until later on that night. Enjoy your new year and I hope you all keep working on your art. God bless you and enjoy the New Year! REASONABLE health care for all. *wink*

I haven't gotten the confirmation yet but I'm on the roster to get my table. I'll see you all there and please bring any commissions or request to the show. I would like to get a head start on my Holiday Commissions. Please email me with details of gift ideas. Thanks! See you there.

Wow... been a little crazy lately with new art and lots of stuff for the holidays. Been busy at work and some new things happening in my life. What first... OH! Well... my mom is going to have surgery on her eye either this week or after X-mas. The doctor's been giving us some issues on the date lately. I hope we can get this over with. It would suck if mom had to go in the week of X-mas. X-mas is next Friday. I hope she can get it this week. She has a Macula Hole, which is just on the top part of your eye. It's a hole that stretches out across the Macular (the liquid over your eye) so she's legally blind in one eye, her right eye.

For the art work side of life... been working on pages and I'm wanting to get this manuscript out before the new year and the way things are going I think it can be done. Just gotta get these pages finished and with your help this might actually happen. Please tell me if you see something that should be changed or if you have submitted work to a publisher or have been published Chris and I would REALLY like to know what we should include in our submittion. Thanks!

Recently I've joined a comic book reading club. My first meeting was Thursday and the book was "Superman for all four seasons." It was really good but some places seemed ... off putting to me. Dunno. Sometimes Jeof Loeb writes that way. The club itself was lots of fun and my step-dad, Don joined me. The people were really REALLY nice and accepted me right off the bat. I talked with a couple at the beginning of the club and we really hit it off. We talked about indie-comics and our favorite writers, movies, books, short stories, and art. It was SO much fun! I haven't had the chance to talk with intelligent people like that in YEARS! I'm totally going again. Next month we will be joined by Scott Allie who wrote "The Devil's Footprint." That's our next book we are reading. It was between "Devil's Footprint" and the new Solomon Kane book. I personally really liked the new one but ... yeah, it wasn't like the original novels of short stories from Horowitz, still... it wasn't bad. Heck, there's making a movie soon so shouldn't we read it? We'll probably discuss it. I gotta read up on the books again. I read them A LONG time ago. LONG!!! Back in Elementary School. My friend in Elm. School was a huge horror fan and she found some old short stories about our little Puritan bounty hunter and lent me her copies of the short stories. I read them in secret and fell in love with these stories. I think my favorite was the one with the old graveyard man who was posessed by some demon who was slain in that very cemetery. So, in short... I'm in a club!

Looking forward to the movie "Avatar" coming out this week. Sooooo looking forward to it. This movie better rock because I've waited 15 years for this! Cameron... please don't make me regret paying $13 for tickets. Thanks! This is a recession, man. Don't make me get out my blow torch and smoke you like Rippley did to the Alien Queen in "Aliens." This better be like "crawls on floor to praise Cameron" good.

And for those of you who go to my store do me a big favor: don't open up books with plastic wrap on it. If you want to look in it let me know. Some jerk just opened a book that's worth LOTS of money on line and it's now worth zip! So, it's being returned to the company and I'm mad. Please... be conciderate. Don't be an American. Thanks.

God bless you all. May God's grace, mercy and love be with you all during this season of joy.

Love you all!

Hello fellow Bastett fans. I know I have many of you who went to the show this weekend and I gotta say... thank you SOOO very much for visiting my booth and saying "hi." It was tons of fun and I did really well for a Sunday show. Your support really does keep me going and I am really happy to have produced art that you enjoy buying and viewing. Thank you so very much! It's totally worth the long hours I take on my work to make you all excited. Thank you and ... good night. *crashes on bed*

Oh man! This was one HELL of a day. First off I had church and after church I went straight to the show in Portland. Parking was easy and we were actually able to bring stuff in and I was JUST able to set up my booth when a very nice man named Brian Yee came along and requested a Red Sonja image in my chibi style. I gladly accepted the request; the guy drove from Canada to visit this show and really wanted this done. We spoke about Robert E. Howard art work and really hit it off. I was about 5 minutes late in fully preparing my table for what would ensure that day.

After the Red Sonja image I got about three more requests and one guy who kept coming by really wanting a sketch of my "Birth of the Unicorn" image (turns out he just wanted a sketch and if I had more time I would have gladly sketched it for him). Then I had... not kidding here... about 8 kids come up and ask for sketches! They all wanted Sora from "Kingdom Hearts 1." Geeze! I was astounded! I had a class of little 4th graders who were Randy Emberlin's students and they all saw my work and really wanted sketches. The guy next to me said I took too many commissions but... I hate to make kids sad.

I am really happy that I get some time off to just sleep. Kerry needs it! I didn't go to the bathroom hardly at all today. Dude! It took me until 4 hours after we opened the show to visit the ladies room... and I had to go! It was that crazy.

I will post new images soon and some photos of the work I did at the show.

Thanks again for coming. I hope to see you at the next show... next year.

Kerry

No, I did not make this a Bastett's Chats because it's an invitation to come to the Portland Comic Book Show, 11/15/09 at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, OR. This is the 72nd show and it's my ... *counts* I think... 5th show? Can't remember but it's been 2 years running for me at the show and I'd love to see you guys again. I will be taking short commissions at the show so bring your references if you want chibis, full size images or just sketches of your favorite characters. I will limit my characters per page to 2 characters. Sorry.

Here is what I am selling:

Stickers/Chibi: $1.50 each or 3 for $3.
Bookmarks: $2 or 3 for $5.
Prints: $8 (11x17 glossy prints)
T-shirts: $6 ON SALE!!! (please check sizes at show) Design Sample=
=> T-shirt is white, 100% Cotton T-shirt (BW) with "Bastett" on the T-shirt (originally $10)
Greeting Cards: $3 each
Trading Cards: $4 Pre-made, $6 for Commission.

On-site commissions are $5 for this show. I will ink and color your single image; $8 for couples and $15 for groups.
$5 for On-Site character Commissions (example: "You don't have a Kanda image from "D.Gray-Man!" And you say you're a "D.Gray-Man" fan. DRAW ME ONE, NOW!!! Draw a Lotus Blossom, too.)

Again: please bring references for any fanart image or if you want me to draw a chibi.

The chibis are something I do on the side but ALWAYS appreciate requests or commissions for customers. Basically you look at what I have and tell me what you want if I don't have it. I've been really happy with the requests as of late and would really like to know of a character you'd like to see in my collection. I will give you a copy of the sticker and a copy of the original. I keep the originals unless you want the original.

I take lots of requests but please understand that I am an artist and I can't do every image that pops into your head. I cannot do 20 characters on a single sheet. 10 would be enough for me. I really need to stress this because some people don't realize that you can only fit so many characters on a piece to make the image flow. Thank you.

Either way I hope to see you all at the show. Hope you have an awesome time. It's going to be so much fun! Lots of great guests at the show. This year I'll be towards the back with a few other artists instead of in the front like the past 2 shows. This is because of the re-arrangeing the convention had to do due to the Winterhawk game and increase in tables for the show. But I will be easy to spot. Look for the ONLY anime/manga table with the cute art work. heheh!

Lots of love and remember: the Best movie of the year; "Star Trek" comes out on Tuesday!!!
